On February 13, officers of the Hunting Department brought a year-old brown bear to The Center for Rehabilitation and Reintroduction of Tigers and Other Rare Animals» (PRNCO "Tiger Center"). The bear was named Dimka after one of the participants of the rescue operation. The young animal was found in the city of Ussuriysk. Local residentsinformed about a female bear with a cub repeatedly seen at the city’s landfill in the autumn of 2015. But in the winter, the adult bear was no longer observed, as she had probably been killed. Her cub was left alone and entered hibernation himself. But the place he chose proved to be very inappropriate, too close to buildings. Last week he was found by children, who began visiting his den. Officers of the Hunting Department took the young bear and delivered to the PRNCO "Tiger Center". On the first day he awoke and huddled up in the remote corner of the quarantine unit. But the next day the bear began falling asleep. He made a nest from hay and entered hibernation again. The staff of the Center was consulted by the leading experts on rehabilitation of bears. It was decided to return Dimka back into the wild at the biological station "Clean Forest", according to the developed method of rehabilitation of bear cubs. We hope that he has a good chance to start his independent life in the wild in the coming spring.
